This program nurtures our students’ love for learning as well as their social skills, independence, community membership, and academic progress. More structured than our preschool classes, the kindergarten class is suited to children with well-developed attention spans who are ready to move into more defined project work. Our goal is to meet children where they are and provide engaging and developmentally appropriate opportunities for them to move forward on the social, emotional, and cognitive continuums. This is possible due to our small class size, high teacher-to-student ratio, and ability to adjust our lessons to meet the needs of our specific students.

The kindergarten program is for children who will be at least 4.5 years old by September 1. Admission to our program is dependent upon teacher consideration of age and developmental readiness.

As a fully licensed kindergarten, our program provides a nurturing, confidence building, academically appropriate environment for students to prepare for first grade. It can also serve as a pre-k readiness program for students with summer or fall birthdays, who then go on to attend an all day kindergarten class the following year. To further help our students prepare for the type of school day they will experience when they leave JLCC, our kindergarten program ends with a partial week of all-day classes (generally 9:30–3:00).

Teachers in this class hold these credentials:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Minnesota Teaching License for K-6 & 18 years experience with this age group

  • A bachelor’s degree, a Minnesota Teaching License for prek-6, & 23 years experience with this age group

Meet the Kindergarten class pet, Wallace!

Children are led to become independent learners, they are taught how to show encouragement and love to their friends, families, and neighbors, and they are surrounded by teachers who believe in them and their potential, always.

[Our son] would spend the entire car ride home talking about his day and asking when he could go back to school.

Their curriculum emphasizes kindness, play and imagination, as well as developmentally appropriate numeracy and literacy lessons. Their units were exciting, promoted curiosity, and independence.
I cannot imagine a better start to my children’s educational journey. I highly recommend this school.
